James O. Carpenter

Berwyn, Pennsylvania

JIM was raised in Media, Delaware County. As an associate at Post & Post LLC, Jim focuses his practice on the defense of medical providers and healthcare institutions.

Jim graduated in 1986 from the University of Pennsylvania magna cum laude and from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1990. After law school, Jim spent several years working at two Philadelphia firms in insurance and product liability defense litigation.

In 1995, Jim joined the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office. He first practiced in the Appellate Unit where he briefed and argued cases before the Pennsylvania Superior Court. He then moved to the Family Violence & Sexual Assault Unit. There, he prosecuted over sixty jury trials and hundreds of bench trials to verdict in cases involving sexual assault, child physical and sexual abuse and domestic violence, often presenting extensive testimony from physicians and psychiatrists. He served six years as Assistant Chief of the Unit, followed by six years as Chief.

Jim was Alternate Chair of the Act 33 Task Force on Child Fatalities and Near-Fatalities - a state mandated committee that examines fatalities and near fatalities of children in Philadelphia to improve the city's child protection system. There, he worked closely with pediatricians from Philadelphia children's hospitals to develop protocols and practices to identify and protect children in danger of physical abuse, severe malnutrition or medical neglect, and reduce accidental child gun and co-sleeping deaths. He also chaired the Philadelphia Domestic Violence Law Enforcement Committee that worked with Philadelphia hospitals to develop methods for detecting and intervening to prevent and reduce domestic violence among patients.

Jim is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, as well as the United States District Court for Eastern Pennsylvania and the United States District Court for New Jersey.
